My Commitment to District One
As a resident of Augusta for over 20 years living in my home on Bohler Avenue in the Harrisburg neighborhood I have had the pleasure of experiencing what a close and supportive community of neighbors is really like. I can depend upon folks to watch out for my home when I am out of town and more than one of my neighbors has fed and looked after my boys when the need arose.
I meet many of my neighbors while gardening and during those conversations I realize that Augusta has come a long way but that many people feel left out when it comes to moving us forward to reach our highest potential.
Most folks realize that we are the second largest City in Georgia but they wonder why we don’t have a more expansive public transit system so that more people might be able to have access to jobs and public services or to pursue their education in order to move up in life. They want to be able to move freely downtown for recreation and special events and the truth is so do visitors to the Garden City.
Also affordable housing opportunities are quite limited and the dream of home ownership is just that ….. a dream. I would love to see programs like Turn Back the Block expanded so that more families would see that dream be realized.
Another universal issue of importance is public safety. In my capacity as a Commissioner I would work hand in hand with our local authorities to address the concerns of my neighbors and look at solutions so that no matter where they live Augustans will feel safe.
These are only a few issues to consider. Please let me know how you want your tax dollars spent. Your local government functions within the parameters of the people’s will. Your elected officials are the stewards of your tax dollars and remain accountable to you.
I am willing to further commit myself to help my neighbors as a Commissioner in District One, first by Listening, than by Researching the issues and than most importantly by Acting in your best interest.
I believe that by working respectfully with the other Commissioners, deliberating on possible projects, programs and initiatives I will bring Augustans new opportunities and fresh ideas.
Moving Augusta Forward!
I have decided to enter the District One race because I want to contribute to the growth of my community and to represent your interests in moving Augusta forward.
I believe that Augusta is poised to better meet the needs of our residents, inviting tourism and economic development but that vigilance is necessary in order to protect the best interests of our community.
When we seize upon opportunities to bring clean, living wage jobs to Augusta along with a more accessible means of transportation all Augustans will reap the benefits. Every Augustan should demand the basics from local government as well as expect it to respond to viable solutions for a more vibrant future.
We want our children and grandchildren to be gainfully employed right here in Augusta and when we possess the willingness to work collaboratively with our partners in education, business and housing we can make that a reality.

Formal Announcement, April 30, 2012
Good Morning, my name is Denice Traina and I am here today to formally announce my run for the District One Commission seat.
Jobs and the means to reach are two vital components to help working Augustans. At a time when gasoline is almost $4 a gallon and families are struggling an enhanced and revitalized mass transit system in Augusta will help all Augustans.
Our students, our disabled elderly and Veterans need to get all over Augusta to school an to work, to receive public services, to enjoy recreation and entertainment and to make purchases.
Our Downtown merchants need foot trafic to make their business grow.
Expanding our system by increasing the hours of operation to midnight and reinstating the Fort Gordon route will stimulate our local economy and better meet the needs of our residents.
With your help I hope to change the face of District One.
Join the campaign, at www.denicetraina.com, Call me, and Vote!
Thank you!
Denice Traina
