SEIZE The Moment….!
The TSPLOST places a local sales tax upon us the consumer for a period of 10 years and will do nothing to improve public services. It will however provide for infrastructure needs (see the list) but I repeat will do nothing for public transit services that citizens in Augusta are begging to utilize. If you don't believe me ask former Commissioner Don Grantham.

Years ago, we had two daughters attending Davidson Fine Arts school. The Richmond County School District bus ride was 1.5 hours long. Parents started taking time off work to car-pool their children. We contacted the city transit department and they were able to re-schedule the Washington Road bus so that it looped around to Pleasant Home Road. That one bus got 15 students to ride it M-F increasing bus revenues, increasing parents' free/work time, and decreasing auto traffic (and resulting pollution, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI met a woman who worked at a nursing home on Pleasant Home Road. She wanted to work overtime on weekends; however, the bus schedule didn't allow her weekend work. The result was loss of overtime wages for a poor woman, and decreased weekend help for the nursing home.
I rented an apartment to a Ft. Gordon soldier with medical problems. When his car broke down one day, he had no way to get to the clinic.
We definitely need to revitalize mass transit in Augusta. IT CAN BE DONE! I'm happy that Denise Traina is interested in this issue for our city.
